The most popular is the 'Sunriser Classic' (about 5 hours, 10 km), ideal for experiencing the fjord’s magic in the early morning light and enjoying peaceful conditions. Guides provide everything you need: single or double kayaks, paddles, life jackets, waterproof clothing, and a short briefing before departure. No previous experience is necessary—just basic fitness and a sense of wonder!

Highlights include getting close to Stirling Falls, paddling beneath the peaks of Mitre Peak, meeting seals and dolphins, and stopping at stunning corners of the fjord—all in absolute safety. In high season (November–March), we recommend booking well in advance.

Planning a kayak adventure here also means organizing flights and local travel from Italy. Flights from Italy usually arrive in Auckland or Christchurch. From there, you drive or catch a coach to the Te Anau/Milford Sound area (about 4 hours from Queenstown).

Remember: New Zealand is +10/+12 hours ahead of Italy, and seasons are reversed (the warmest months and best time for kayaking are December–March). Italian citizens need an ETA visa (around €30), available online. Expect to spend €120–150 per person for a kayak tour, not including transport and accommodation.
